APRIL 2009:
Following a quiet end to last season due to poor weather, and a rather excellent Christmas dinner, the club are back for another season. With a strong emphasis remaining on development and the search for new players to join the team, the Vipers will be playing in both the BBS Primary Club Knockout Cup and mixed friendlies with local sighted teams. We will also be entering some of our players into the BCEW 20/20 Cup as part of a team called London Vipers, which is a combination of players from the old London Sports side (now known as Essex Tigers) and current Vipers members. A full fixture list can be seen on our “Upcoming Games and Events” page.
If you would like to experience the enjoyment and excitement of cricket with the Vipers, either as a spectator or new player, please get in touch with secretary Danny Miles by telephone (07926 972762) or email (emowarrior@googlemail.com).
We look forward to hearing from you!
JUNE 2008:
June 15 wasn't just Father's Day - it was also another chance for the Vipers' to get out on the cricket pitch, as we played a mixed teams friendly with Balsham CC. We'd like to thank the members of Balsham, who were wonderful hosts and provided a tremendous tea, as well as throwing themselves into the experience with gusto. Their batting was particularly impressive, with 11-year-old Murray scoring 40 for his side before retiring to let other players show what they could do. Vipers' founder and former player David Ellingham made an appearance, but was bowled for a duck by B1 Danny Miles, although an element of luck was involved as the ball was caught by wicket keeper Ahmed Redwan after bouncing off of the knee of close fielder Darren South. For David's side, B1 Chris Alderson had an equally impressive performance, scoring two fours during his innings and helping his team-mates to a 10-run win.
MAY 2008:
2007 was a highly transitional year for the Vipers, with the main focus on raising the profile of the club in a bid to find new players. This work has since paid off, as has the continual support of former BBS Regional Development Officer for the South-East Ryan Arms, with six new players joining the squad.
Four of these made their competitive debuts on Saturday May 10, as the Eastern Vipers faced Birmingham in the BBS Primary Club National Cup. Babraham CC, whose facilities were voted the best during the 2007 season, were wonderful hosts and provided a fantastic array of food. The sun shone, and the good news just kept rolling, as Vipers fielded a full eleven for the first time in three years. The final result was disappointing, as Birmingham ran out victors by eight wickets, but the progress of the club and the energy and enthusiasm displayed by old and new alike were the most important results of the day.
